Every now and then I get asked to produce a floral image with a specific tone or theme. My current project was a request to use green blooms. I decided to opt for green carnations and combined them with some white roses from my garden. This is the result.

Happiness on a gloomy Monday! Cloudy, cool and low wind conditions are great for floral photography though! I got my rainy day photo taken in my back yard featured on the local Dublin Patch website and Facebook page.

The smell of rosebushes in bloom fills the air and the sound of bees going about their important work is noticeable. Since our profusion of roses is not a welcome sight to all given the resulting deluge of petals I have to pick blooms regularly. It seems a travesty to simply discard them so I took a few pics and handed some out to my more appreciative neighbors. Here is what they looked like in the compost bucket.

The ever resilient rose bushes are greeting Spring enthusiastically and are bursting with buds. A few of the sights from the garden this week.

The roses are certainly on the rise and I am expecting some magnificent blooms.
The Blue Potato Bush, native to Argentina and Paraguay, and growing in our back yard in California, has purple blooms all over it and seems to have enjoyed the recent rains.

The potato bush plant (Lycianthes rantonnetii) is closely related to potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants and although rather pretty to see it is a member of the Solanum family and is poisonous. Common names for this plant include blue potato bush, Paraguay nightshade and blue solanum shrub.

Nature reveals incredibly beauty in the details of its blooms. Rippling textures and nuanced shading are both captivating and gorgeous.
Like a blossom’s fleeting beauty,

Spring time of bountiful pleasure
that brings joy to the soul.
Something I really enjoy about being a Floral Photographer is when people notice blooms that they find appealing then they contact me and either send photos or tell me the location.
I had spotted a patch of poppies close to our home and had taken a few pics but the light was just too bright to do them justice. Then a friend sent me a pic of them and it motivated me to give the Poppy Patch another visit. These photos are the ones I took then.

The joyous sight of Spring blossoms announcing that winter is drawing to a close. These are a few dotted around our neighborhood.

Recently there has been a spate of bad and sad news about friends and famous people leaving this mortal coil. It has placed me in a rather melancholy mood especially after just hearing about the passing of another dear soul in the UK, then David Bowie and then today Alan Rickman.
In reflecting on the impact that these individuals have had on my journey, whether known or unknown to them, it has made me realize that so many people contribute pieces of themselves to influence the kind of person I’ve become. In reading the outpouring of messages across social media there is the understanding that we are all connected and that our collective memories help us treasure the moments of lives that have made an impact both on a global scale or those that have touched us personally.
The human body has its limitations but the human spirit is a boundless thing of beauty.
I am thankful to all those who have contributed to mine.
