A walk in the wild does wonders for the senses and awakens an attention to the beauty of the natural world.
A recent walk in the Mount Diablo State Park provided a first view for me of Brodiaea laxa Queen Fabiola aka Ithuriel’s Spear in its natural habitat.

The Blue Potato Bush, native to Argentina and Paraguay, and growing in our back yard in California, has purple blooms all over it and seems to have enjoyed the recent rains.

The potato bush plant (Lycianthes rantonnetii) is closely related to potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants and although rather pretty to see it is a member of the Solanum family and is poisonous. Common names for this plant include blue potato bush, Paraguay nightshade and blue solanum shrub.

It’s a stunningly beautiful morning in Northern California today. As my children excitedly anticipate the start of the summer break the mood is jovial and we pay attention to little details on the school run. We spotted a swallowtail butterfly fluttering between the emerging white agapanthus and its wings were catching the morning sunlight. There is so much we can be thankful for and these small moments remind me about the joy to be found in living.

Reading my children’s yearbooks and seeing all the good wishes made me want to share them too – so HAGS to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere and HUGS to everyone in the South!
So after a lovely three years exploring the English countryside my husband’s new job means that we are changing countries again. Next stop California and we are leaving in November. Since I will also have to sell my pc it means that soon there will be a bit of a break of posts until I am reconnected. Thanks to all the Fables and Flora supporters for sharing in my adventures! While I can, here are some California themed flower pics.
