Pink Roses

The rose bushes seem to be competing with each other to produce the most blooms. They look so lovely and the nice thing is we can share the bounty with our neighbours who all received fresh bunches this week.

Garden surprise

The nice thing about moving to a new house in winter is having very little idea of what to expect in the garden in spring. Our garden has been producing lots of lovely surprises and the latest one is one of my favourites – a peony bud! The two buds on display at the moment are somewhat small but I am very excited to see the colour of the bloom. There are several other lovely blooms to behold, the roses continue to enchant with a yellow variety and the lemon tree is now in blossom.

A photograph for a blog post on photography

I have recently started writing blog posts for the World of Expats website and decided to do my second post on my favourite subject – taking photographs! I however did not have a suitable photograph to go with the theme and I didn’t have much time before submission. So while I was in the garden, taking photographs of course, my husband appeared camera in hand to take a photo of me with my old Lumix camera so he provided an ideal model. The light was nice in one spot in the garden but I didn’t like the background so I took the photo in the nice light then swapped the background with the other side of the garden where the Japanese maple grows. The fun of Photoshop! Please have a read of my post “Life through a lens – photographing your journey” – I would appreciate your comments.

First Butterfly visitor in the garden

The Western Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio rutulus), is a common Swallowtail Butterfly of western North America and today one paid a visit to our garden while my daughter and I were weeding. Fortunately my camera was close at hand as I had just taken some more photos of the roses. It moved rather quickly around the Abelia though so I was lucky to get a shot!

Flowers in the rain

We had some desperately needed rain showers today and I dodged the raindrops to take a few pics of the droplets on the blooms. Then got cold and ran inside for a nice warm cup of tea!
