Gratitude and Roses

“Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul.” Henry Ward Beecher

A friend I’ve  had for more than two decades recently succumbed to cancer and was laid to rest. She fought bravely and throughout her entire battle she resisted and she lived! While out on my walk the next day, camera in hand, I was very aware of the joy and beauty that surrounded me, of the miracle of life and the wonder of simply breathing.

I am grateful to have known her and to have been inspired by her indomitable spirit, so today I am sharing these miniature yellow roses in honor of her life and our friendship. It’s always a good day to appreciate good friends.

What Sunflowers do…

“Keep your face to the sunshine, and you cannot see the shadow. It’s what sunflowers do.” Helen Keller

There are certain times when finding the silver lining is tough but it does the soul good to find them even on our most challenging days. Being thankful on those days and expressing gratitude to those who bring sunshine into our lives is a way to keep the shadows at bay.

These images are from my Sunflower bouquet at Thanksgiving. Wishing you well this Thanksgiving weekend!

Roses for my melancholy mood

roses whitegreen

Recently there has been a spate of bad and sad news about friends and famous people leaving this mortal coil. It has placed me in a rather melancholy mood especially after just hearing about the passing of another dear soul in the UK, then David Bowie and then today Alan Rickman.

In reflecting on the impact that these individuals have had on my journey, whether known or unknown to them, it has made me realize that so many people contribute pieces of themselves to influence the kind of person I’ve become. In reading the outpouring of messages across social media there is the understanding that we are all connected and that our collective memories help us treasure the moments of lives that have made an impact both on a global scale or those that have touched us personally.

The human body has its limitations but the human spirit is a boundless thing of beauty.

I am thankful to all those who have contributed to mine.
