California is desperately in need of more rain. We had an unexpected but very welcome thunderstorm last week and the way the raindrops looked on the roses was a bedazzling sight. It’s no wonder they a few of my favourite things!

The rose bushes in the garden have greeted Spring with fervour. It brought to mind the song from the musical Gypsy. The song lyrics give the meaning to the idiom Everything is coming up Roses, and the words go “Things look swell, things look great, Gonna have the whole world on a plate. Starting here, starting now Honey, everything’s coming up roses.”

Some much needed rain finally arrived in drought-stricken California this week. I took the opportunity to feed the roses and admire some late bloomers in the nearby park.

Off to the park while the conditions were good and headed for the red roses. This is what I saw..

Now that it’s Fall the rose bushes are starting to settle down and producing much fewer blooms. These are a few of the remaining late bloomers.

The showers increased in intensity last week for just one day, so I took a trip back to the rose garden in our local park to see what I could see.

I received a rather early birthday present from my lovely hubby today – extension tubes for my camera. For those of you who are still saving for a macro lens like I am – this is an affordable alternative. Played around with it in the yard and was very pleased with the results.
