Some things simply connect with us, resonate with us or excite us. There is no standard recipe for discovering what these things will be or deciphering how the connections are made.
I love flowers. They ignite my soul.
I also love traditional Korean martial arts (aka Kuk Sool Won) – who would have guessed?
I have a blog for martial arts as well as floral photography because I love sharing what I care about. Some may find that weird but in a recent post about a contest by Seth Godin it was reassuring to hear that we are all weird.
So I went in search of a connection to my diverse passions and discovered that Hibiscus Syriacus (Rose of Sharon), also known in Korea as Mugunghwa is their official flower. This flower also just happens to grow readily in our neighborhood and the shrubs are in full view of the dojang where I train.

There are few better ways for a floral photographer to celebrate a birthday as being surrounded by exotic flowers with camera in hand and time to spare.
My lovely family took me along to the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco and I spent a few happy hours bonding with the beautiful blooms.

We had planned a family day out to Muir Woods, a redwood forest near San Francisco, on Memorial Day but little did we know how popular it was going to be! After assessing the parking situation we moved on to the city and decided to picnic in Golden Gate Park.
We found a lovely little section of the park called the Shakespeare Garden which although not big had some lovely floral surprises. The California Spring Blossom and Wildflower Association originally established it as the Garden of Shakespeare’s Flowers and it has a history dating back to 1928.

Spring in the garden is a simply marvelous season! New growth and blooms and the energy of the cycle of life seems to be bursting forth everywhere!
The yellow daisies around the corner and the bright pink of the Indian Hawthorn at our front door are welcoming the bees too.

Technically it’s still Winter in Northern California but that doesn’t seem to be hindering the geraniums. They keep producing buds and blooms at regular intervals from their rather shady spot in the garden. Here are a few samples.

Following the blogging frenzy during the week of the #YourTurnChallenge culminating in my debut tv appearance it has been a bit of a mission to get my head out of the clouds.
Photo 1: Welcome February
I felt so energetic and driven it was like starting my blogging journey all over again even though I’ve been doing it for three years. Now that the euphoria has settled it’s back to business as usual but the feeling of striving to fulfill my dreams has been reignited.

I’ve always wanted to do so much, to make an impact while making a difference and uplifting and inspiring those around me in the process. This year has gotten off to a remarkable start and I am looking forward to reaching for my dreams with renewed vigour and adding some pizzazz to my floral photography.

There aren’t many people who haven’t heard of Anne Geddes. The wonderful creativity and unique niche of her photography is so distinctive.
FineArtAmerica is currently hosting a National TV photo contest that she will be judging. The winners of the competition will appear in their next TV commercial which is scheduled to begin airing in July 2015.
To make it through the first round your photos need to get at least 250 votes. There are thousands of entries and the last number I saw of shares of the competition were over 38 000! Some lovely people have already voted for my work and that was very heartwarming!
Competition is so tough but since this is the week of shipping for the #YourTurnChallenge I have submitted my three entries and I’m hoping for the best!

Magic happens in the minutiae of life that we are usually blissfully unaware of. Seeing the details of the ordinary up close gives a new perspective on the wonders the world holds.
I have always wanted a macro lens but could never justify the cost of one. Instead I used the lens I had to get as close as I possibly could.
Then for Christmas my darling husband surprised me with a beautiful new Canon macro lens. I almost wept with joy! A whole new world of photography awaited.
These are my first attempts at using it. It will take some getting used to but I am already thoroughly enjoying myself.
