Caught in the Rose Garden

Getting together with a portrait photographer on my usual walk about the local park was lots of fun. Specimen spotting and talking to the sun to get the right light was also rather entertaining for her 2 year old charge who happened to be carrying a lovely sprig of lavender given to him by a passerby. When I got entranced by the blooms in the rose garden I also got caught on camera…

Sweet Gardenia for my Mum

The Gardenia plant at our back door is steadily producing more blooms. I often take a look at them or just get a whiff of their sweet fragrance. I wanted to take a pic of one as tomorrow is my Mum’s first birthday since her death and they remind me of her and my grandfather. I think this is the best pic I’ve taken of one so far. Seems apt.

Raining on the Rose Garden

The showers increased in intensity last week for just one day, so I took a trip back to the rose garden in our local park to see what I could see.

Rose of Sharon

The delicate blooms of the Rose of Sharon are on show again on the creek trail close to our home. Conditions were not great for photos this morning as there was some wind but that just gave them a surreal look.

In the rose garden

Stopped at the rose garden in the local park this morning after going for a nice bike ride. Some rather lovely blooms. Flower gardens are my happy place!

I don’t shoot people…only flowers

I am often out in the garden in the morning with my camera to take advantage of the lovely light. This morning a local resident stopped to ask me whether I would take some portrait photos of his children. I told him I don’t shoot people..only flowers! Think I am going to make that into a t-shirt.

Orange Sunflowers

I have been waiting to get my hands on a bunch of these beauties. Found some at a local supermarket yesterday. Lovely vibrant colour and they just look so different to the yellow I am accustomed too.

Breezy Morning in the Garden

It was a bit breezy in the garden this morning so not great conditions for floral photography outdoors but there were still some lovely blooms to snap.

Angel’s Trumpets: Beautiful and deadly

Brugmansia, more commonly known as Angel’s Trumpets are well suited to their name and look positively angelic in the early morning light. Do not be deceived by their heavenly name and scent though as they are deadly poisonous so if you eat them you could meet your maker. This large shrub with it’s impressive blooms belongs to the Solanaceae family along with a plant called Deadly Nightshade for good reason, all parts of Brugmansia are poisonous, with the seeds and leaves being especially dangerous.
