Pink Roses

The rose bushes seem to be competing with each other to produce the most blooms. They look so lovely and the nice thing is we can share the bounty with our neighbours who all received fresh bunches this week.

A pink rose in the rain

The smallest rose bush in the garden produces a really lovely little rose that I have dubbed “fluffy”. It is a full bloom with several luscious layers of petals that would look gorgeous as a ruched and ruffled dress. It has taken a pounding in the recent cold and rain but still looks so charming.

Indian Hawthorn

Indian Hawthorn (Rhaphiolepsis indica) is an evergreen shrub with pretty pink blooms. I’ve heard that the fruit is edible when cooked, and can be used to make jam but I have not tried it myself. The blooms appear to fade so some of them look white against the fresher deeper pink blooms.

Pink L.A. Hybrid Lily

The pink variety has a more subtle shade which led me to take softer focused shots with a more ‘arty’ feel.

Pale pink Geraldton wax flowers

Geraldton Wax flowers (Chamelaucium uncinatum) are native to Western Australian and remind me a bit of heather. They last quite long in a vase and are therefore popular as cut flowers. These flowers were rather small but also very dainty.

Purple Society Garlic and Pink Geraniums

A few Society Garlic blooms have appeared in the garden and their long delicate stems dance gracefully in the wind. In another spot in the garden however the salmon pink and white-edged Geraniums continue to bloom barely responding to the wind.

A Cherry Blossom Affair

Although the early Cherry blossoms have been battered about by the wind and rain they are still such a cheerful sight that I couldn’t resist another round of photos. The blossoms and petals that fell off the tree also provided some fun shots.

Cheerful Cherry blossoms blooming beautifully

The warm weather has fooled some of the cherry trees into giving an early display of pretty blossoms. Always a lovely sight. Usually I get a few odd looks while out photographing flowers. This time however passers by stopped, took out their phones and snapped along with me!

Variegated Pink Carnations

Missed my flowers and since people seem to be getting in the mood for Valentine’s Day I decided to go with some pink carnations.
